This privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) governs the privacy of information Nova Scotia Dental Association (“NSDA”) collects inside the “NSDA” website (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy includes examples of the types of information NSDA collects, and the kinds of parties with whom NSDA shares such information. These examples are illustrative and should not be considered a complete inventory of NSDA’s information collection, use, and sharing practices. By installing, using, or accessing the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, do not access or use the Service. NSDA may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and will post updates to this Privacy Policy on this web page, including the Privacy Policy’s effective date. By your use of the Service, you understand and consent to the collection and use of your data, the transfer of that data in Canada and to and from other countries for storage, processing, and use by NSDA.

INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USE

NSDA collects a variety of information through general use of the Service that helps us convey your identity to users, validate that identity, and helps us to deliver a better experience for you in the Service. NSDA takes reasonable measures to help protect information about you from loss, theft, misuse and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration and destruction. However, we cannot control all the individuals and activities on the Internet and elsewhere, and therefore NSDA cannot guarantee or warrant that such information will never be compromised. Your use of the Service is at your own risk. No internet or email transmission is ever fully secure or error-free. Information sent to or through the Service may not be secure. You should use caution whenever submitting information online and take special care in deciding what information you send to us online. NSDA urges you to take steps to keep your personal information safe by memorizing your password or keeping it in a safe place.

INFORMATION UPON REGISTRATION

When verifying your account or resetting your password on the site, NSDA asks for and stores an email address you provide upon registration. We do so to be able to contact you and validate your identity if so needed.

LINKS

NSDA may keep analytical data on the links, content, and gestures you interact with within the Service to understand better how you use the Service, content that users interact with, and general trends across these links, and content in the Service. We do this to improve the Service and to better understand our users.

COOKIES

NSDA uses “cookies” to allow us to better understand how our users use the Service. Cookies themselves are small pieces of text that are stored by your web browser associated with each visit. NSDA uses cookies to help us understand how and when you use the Service. These cookies are not personally associated with your real identity, they simply enable us to understand when users are logged in and key functionality so that we are able to provide you with a higher quality, targeted service and understand aggregate user trends. Declining the use of cookies may limit your access to certain features of the Service.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

EMBEDDED CONTENT FROM OTHER WEBSITES

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

LOG DATA

NSDA servers automatically record data (“Log Data”) created by your use of the Service. Log Data may include information such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, the referring web page, pages visited, location, your mobile carrier, device and application IDs, search terms, and cookie information. We receive Log Data when you interact with the Service by visiting or signing into the Service. NSDA uses this data to measure, understand, and improve the Service to you.

INFORMATION DISCLOSURE

NSDA may share or disclose your information at your direction, such as when you choose to publicly post content or update your profile information. NSDA may provide information on a confidential basis to nonaffiliated companies NSDA engages as contractors or agents to perform services for NSDA, such as hosting services or maintaining software. Information will be shared with such third party service providers only to the extent reasonably necessary for them to perform services on NSDA’s behalf, and pursuant to confidentiality obligations consistent with this Privacy Policy.

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Privacy Policy, NSDA may preserve or disclose your information if we believe that it is reasonably necessary to comply with a law, regulation or legal request; to protect the safety of any person; to address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect NSDA’s rights or property. However, nothing in this Privacy Policy is intended to limit any legal defenses or objections that you may have to a third party’s, including a government’s, request to disclose your information.

If NSDA is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization or sale of assets, or if NSDA goes out of business or enters bankruptcy, user information may be one of the assets that is transferred or acquired by a third party. You acknowledge that such transfers may occur, and that any of the acquirer of NSDA or our assets may continue to use your personal information as set forth in this Privacy Policy.

We may share or disclose your non-private, aggregated or otherwise non-personal information, such as your public user profile information, public posts, or the number of users who clicked on a particular link.

MODIFYING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION/GENERAL USE OF INFORMATION

If you are a registered user of our Service and have created a user profile, other users of the Service will be able to see some of your user profile information. You may modify the profile information you provided or made available to us and associated with your account either online or by contacting the NSDA. Some account information can only be modified by contacting the NSDA.

Account Information. You may update, correct or delete information about you at any time by logging in to your account or by contacting the NSDA. Some account information can only be modified by contacting the NSDA. If you would like to cancel your account entirely, please do so in accordance with the Terms of Service governing the Service, but please note that we may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes. For example, we may retain cached or archived copies of information about you for a certain period of time.

Location Information. We may use your IP address to infer an approximation of your location when using certain features of the Services. You will be required to provide your postal code to us when creating an account.

Upon creation of your account, you opted in to receiving a variety of information from us. You may opt out of receiving promotional emails, and other communications from NSDA by following the instructions in those emails, or other communications or by contacting the NSDA. Please note that even if you opt-out from receiving commercial communications, you may still receive administrative communications from NSDA, such as notifications about your account activities (e.g. account confirmations, password changes, etc.), and any other important announcements.

WHAT RIGHTS YOU HAVE OVER YOUR DATA

If you have an account on this site you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

WHAT DATA BREACH PROCEDURES WE HAVE IN PLACE

Where a privacy data breach is known to have occurred (or is suspected) the NSDA CEO will be informed immediately. Once notified of the information, the CEO must consider whether a privacy data breach has (or is likely to have) occurred and make a preliminary judgement as to its severity, with consultation with the NSDA IT support personnel. A decision will then be made on the necessity to discuss with Governing Council. A full record of the incident, outcome and procedures implemented to reduce likelihood of reoccurrence will be kept for further review by the yearly external audit.

CANADIAN LAW

NSDA is based in Canada and the information we collect is governed by Canadian law. By accessing or using the Service or otherwise providing information to us, you consent to the processing, transfer and storage of information in and to Canada and other countries.
