Dr. Evan Baird (DDS)

Description

Root resorption is becoming increasingly more common and can be challenging to manage. This course will cover four different types of root resorption: internal resorption, external inflammatory resorption, external cervical resorption, and replacement resorption. It will include a discussion of the etiology, basic biology, prognosis, and management for these four types of resorption.

Objectives

• Strengthen the clinician’s knowledge of the different types of resorption
• Allow the clinician to be more comfortable in diagnosing and managing teeth with resorptions

Speaker bio

Dr. Evan Baird graduated from Dalhousie University with a DDS degree in 2019. He subsequently completed a residency in Endodontics at the University of British Columbia, graduating in 2022. Dr. Baird returned to Halifax in the summer of 2022 and since then has been working at Endodontic Associates full-time. He also teaches one day a week in the clinic at Dalhousie Dental School and is a mentor with the East Coast Endodontic Study Club. He is on the examination development committees for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and National Dental Specialty Examination board exams in endodontics.

Dr. Lindsay James (DDS)

Description

This course will provide a general overview of molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) including diagnosis and treatment considerations.

Objectives

• Improved ability to recognize and diagnose molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH)
• Understand how age and dental development may influence treatment options
• Clinical considerations for managing hypomineralized teeth in office

Speaker bio

Dr. Lindsay James is a Pediatric dentist currently practicing in Halifax at both the IWK Health Centre and in private practice. She completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery at Dalhousie University in 2019 after which she completed a Pediatric General Residency at the IWK Health Centre. She then went on to complete her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard School of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Reem Rostom (DDS)

Description

Pain patients exist in every dental practice. It can be hard to manage pain patients, both from an emotional and treatment standpoint. This course is designed towards helping dentists recognize what their limitations are, what is within their control, and how to avoid frustration and eventual burnout.

Speaker bio

Dr. Reem Rostom is a “Bedfordtonian” at heart. As a proud alum, she is a three-time Dalhousie University graduate, having received a Bachelor of Science with honours, a Master of Science in microbiology and immunology, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery.

During her second year of dental school Dr. Rostom joined the Canadian Armed Forces with plans to be released from the military once her return of service commitment was complete. To her surprise, she found an amazing community with the Royal Canadian Dental Corps and was determined to stay in military service as long as possible. After multiple postings and growing her family to three children and a very cute dog she found herself in Greenwood, NS. With the military always in her heart, Dr. Rostom could never completely bring herself to retire from the military and chose to become a reservist in 2021. She loved her time in uniform, missed her green family, and credits the military with the excellent dental training she received as a general dentist.

Dr. Rostom began her TMD journey during her time in the Canadian Armed Forces. After pursuing further education in the area of TMD and working as a dentist in private practice, she saw how patient struggled, physically and emotionally, with issues related to TMD. Deciding to dedicate and limit her practice to orofacial pain, Dr. Rostom moved her practice to Bedford in April 2022 with Dr. Saunders. Together, they are committed to treating patient ethivally, with integrity, and using evidence-based care practices.

Dr. Rostom is currently under the mentorship of Dr. Barry Glassman and Dr. Bob Mier, intending to become an American Associate of Orofacial Pain - Qualified Dentist.

Dr. Matthew Morris (DDS)

Description

• An overview of the physiological anatomy and mucogingival deformities of periodontal and peri-implant tissues.
• An overview of the 2017 Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant diseases with respect to ‘mucogingival deformities and conditions’ and ‘peri-implant soft and hard tissue deficiencies.’
• The indications and importance of soft tissue grafting around natural teeth and implants.

Objectives

• What to look out for at the soft tissue level that supports soft tissue augmentation
• Differences between the connective tissue graft (CTG) and the free gingival graft (FGG)
• When indicated, the benefits of soft tissue augmentation at the tooth, implant, patient, and clinician levels

Speaker bio

Dr. Matthew Morris is a board-certified periodontist. He completed his undergraduate degrees in pharmacology (BSc) and dental surgery (BDS) at the University of Liverpool, UK, in 2014. Dr. Morris worked as a general dentist over a number of years and received awards individually and was part of the team awarded the best UK dental practice. During this time, he became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh (MFDS RCS Ed). After which, he achieved a post-graduate certificate in medical education (PGCME) from the University of Wolverhampton and a Master of science (MSc) degree in clinical periodontology from the University of Central Lancashire, UK.

In September 2020, Dr. Morris moved to Halifax to further his career in Periodontics, where he achieved the Master of Periodontics (MPerio) from Dalhousie University in 2023. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCDC).

Dr. Morris has authored peer and non-peer reviewed articles, as well as presented nationally and internationally. During his time in Halifax, Dr. Morris not only fell in love with Atlantic Canada, but also met his wife. He now has the privilege to call Halifax home.

Dr. Morris predominantly works full-time in private practice in Halifax and Dartmouth, but also teaches part-time at Dalhousie University.
